If you’re still unsure about switching from conventional to electric power, the Hyundai Kona EV could be the one that gives you that final nudge. It’s arguably one of the most all-rounded electric cars out there. 

Can you use the Hyundai Kona EV on a day-to-day basis?  

Power comes from a 64kWh battery which develops a very healthy 201bhp.  With a 0-60mph time of 7.9 seconds, top speed 104mph and a potential range of 305 miles, you now have the sort of family-sized SUV that really can be used on a day to day basis for your normal commute, shopping run plus a holiday outing without range anxiety creeping in.

For many people those sorts of figures will mean charging the car on a Sunday night will provide sufficient juice in the battery to get you through the entire working week. Give it another blast on Friday night and you’ll have enough for trips to the beach or for visiting Aunt Beryl at the other end of the country. 

If you need an 80 percent top-up, not a problem. Plug into a rapid charger at a service station, go and grab a coffee, and after 47 minutes or so you’ll be on your way.

What's the verdict on the Hyundai Kona EV?

The Hyundai Kona EV is great fun. It’s a well-equipped, comfortable family SUV that’s good to drive and extremely economical with a terrific range.  

What are the best alternatives to the Hyundai Kona EV? 

1. Kia E-Niro

This is really similar to the Kona EV. You might think this is the Kona if you saw it out on the road. If you're really thinking about driving one of these, you should certainly consider comparing these two. 

2. Skoda Enyaq

Skoda is well known for building cars that are loved by families for it's comfort, practical and reliable cars but this one is slightly better than the Kona in terms of looks and overall power but if you are looking for a family car the Kona is the one to go for. 

3. Kia EV6

Probably one of the powerful engines in an SUV you've ever come across. Seriously, you better strap yourself nice and tight if you're taking this for a spin. The Kia EV6 is a hybrid of a SUV and a sportscar. It's better than the Kona EV on pace, features and looks but it's about £10,000 more expensive and isn't ideal if you're looking for a family car that can carry all your stuff or take the kids on a day out.
