Driving a MINI Cooper.

Few cars make you want to get up on a Sunday morning and go for a drive, just because you want to. The MINI is one of that rare breed. Their handling is often described as sitting in a go-kart, we can fully understand why! With all four wheels positioned as far into the corners as possible, hardly any overhang at the front and rear, a terrific driving position and supportive seats, it is incredibly easy to position the MINI on the road and have some fun. It’s fantastic for punting around town but it’s equally good on the quicker stuff because it handles and rides so well.

The build and interior quality are top notch. The MINI Cooper oozes quality. The company is owned by BMW, and you can tell by the attention to detail. It’s a compliment to say that the MINI feels like a small Beemer.

Power comes from a turbocharged 1.5 litre three-cylinder petrol engine which produces 134bhp and gives you a 0-60mph time of just over 8 seconds. MINI reckon you can achieve 51.4 mpg, which is groundbreaking. Make use of the full rev range and you’ll be rewarded by a lovely sound from the engine.

Every MINI Cooper is well equipped. You get stuff like a DAB radio, air conditioning, really smart 8.8-inch touchscreen, height adjustment to the driver’s seat, Bluetooth, LED headlights, powered windows, and stylish alloys.

The interior of the latest MINI is hi-tech. For example, surrounding the central touchscreen is an illuminated ring which changes colour when you adjust the radio volume. As you alter your speed, it moves with the speedo. You adjust everything on the touchscreen by using a wheel situated between the front seats. It’s easier and safer than prodding the screen itself.

In other words, the MINI Cooper is an absolute delight to drive and ride around in. It really can be both a city buggy and a long distance cruiser at the same time.

It’s one of our favourite cars.
