It’s by no sort of fluke that the Vauxhall Astra is one of the most popular cars ever built. You’ll find it all over the world. Here in the UK we know it with a Vauxhall badge. Across Europe it’s got an Opel badge. In the Americas and Asia, it’s a Chevrolet. In Australia and New Zealand, it’s a Holden.
Why is it so popular?
It's simple. The Astra is good to drive, well equipped, roomy and with a perfect blend of performance and economy. To refer to the Astra as being ‘sensible motoring’ is a massive understatement.
At Wagonex our partners offer the Astra in Elite Nav trim. This is a top of the range Astra and, as the name suggests, it’s up with the elite in terms of standard kit which includes satellite navigation.
It’s also one of the most powerful with a 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine developing 197bhp. It’s quick too with 0-60mph taking a shade under 7 seconds. Power goes to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. For those of you who like to flick around the gears, you’ll have a ball with the Astra because it is one of the most slick ‘boxes on any car. As for economy, we reckon you’ll get around 45mpg.
Bearing in mind that the Vauxhall Astra has been in the UK for over forty years, you’d correctly guess that it’s a thoroughly well sorted car. The suspension is excellent and ensures smooth progress. If you enjoy a car which is also quiet to ride in, you’ll love the Astra.
There’s loads of interior room too. Put it this way, if you need the Vauxhall Astra to be both a Monday-Friday commuter mobile and a weekend family runabout, it’ll quickly become part of the family. The boot is one of the biggest in the family hatchback class.
As for the specifications, you get the aforementioned sat nav plus parking sensors, heated front seats, Bluetooth, DAB radio and a really smart colour touchscreen. To be honest there’s nothing else you’d really ask for.
So, as we said at the start, the fact that the Vauxhall Astra is one of the most popular cars on UK cars is no sort of fluke.
