We all have priorities when looking for a car; interior space, exterior appearance, performance, economy, gadgets... but if you’re someone who puts comfort at the top of your wish list, then look no further than the Citroen C3. Citroen have been the masters of comfort ever since the company was formed over 100 years ago.

They’re also really good at producing small cars, which means that the Citroen C3 is a great choice if you want a car that’s compact but supremely comfortable and surprisingly roomy.

The seats are comfy, the ride is comfy, and we reckon it looks rather snappy too.

Citroen suggests that the C3 is a perfect example of what they call Advanced Comfort which “provides a stress-free travel environment, simplified life on-board, seamless use, and gives a sense of inner calm.” Well, if it can produce inner calm on our busy, pothole-ridden roads, it’ll be a boon.

Power comes from Citroen’s tried and tested 1.2 litre PureTech 3-cylinder petrol engine which develops 82bhp and 0-60mph in around 15 seconds via a manual gearbox. Go easy and you’ll manage up to 48mpg. It’s extremely efficient.

The Citroen C3 is the sort of car that is likely to spend a fair chunk of its life in town or slow traffic. It’s perfect for this thanks to compact dimensions and light steering, keeping progress as smooth as possible. You’ll also enjoy driving the C3: the driving position is excellent and there’s great visibility. Don’t be fooled though; it’ll happily keep up with quicker stuff once you open it up on the motorway.

Inside, you’ll find plenty of room for a family or four adults. There’s a good size boot too which copes well with a family going on holiday or a trip to the beach. In terms of kit, you get all of the essentials plus some very handy ‘extras’ - at least in the Flair model. The vast amount of things like satellite navigation, air con, Bluetooth connection, and radio are controlled via a smart 7-inch colour touchscreen which is mounted centrally. It’s a doddle to use, the sat nav is excellent and you even get rear parking sensors.

In other words, the Citroen C3 Flair is a well-equipped, compact, supermini that is good to drive - economical and incredibly comfortable. It really is a smooth operator.
